Meet Andy Dalkin
Andy Dalkin's journey has always been defined by a commitment to listening, understanding, and serving.
He was born and raised in Glencoe, and his family were active members of Lakeside Congregation (now Makom Solel Lakekside) in Highland Park. Andy was a Cub Scout and later a Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Life Scout, teaching him early the importance of teamwork and community.
Andy graduated from New Trier High School, where he was a two-time varsity letterman and co-captain of the 1983 IHSA Boys' State Champions fencing team. Andy earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Purdue University. He then pursued his passion for justice at DePaul University College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor degree.
Following law school, Andy spent two decades as an Assistant State's Attorney in Cook County, where he prosecuted cases involving narcotics, theft, crimes against juveniles, sexual assault, violent crimes, and served as lead prosecutor in over 50 murder trials. Listening to the concerns and stories of victims and defendants alike, Andy's experience as a prosecutor taught him the importance of understanding the diverse voices of the community he served. After leaving the State's Attorney's office, he became a criminal defense attorney and family law practitioner, further deepening his understanding of the complexities of our legal system.
But Andy's commitment to public service didn't stop there. For five years, he served as a Supervising Investigator for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) in Chicago, overseeing investigations into allegations of police misconduct and officer-involved shootings. Today, he serves as an attorney for the Policemen's Benevolent and Protective Association Labor Committee, representing the sergeants, lieutenants, and captains of the Chicago Police Department, as well as the officers of the Waukegan Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies.
Andy's passion for listening and making a difference extends into his personal life. He lives in Lake Forest with his wife, Teriann, a Principal at a healthcare technology company. Andy is a loving father and stepfather to four children—Kyleigh, Ryan, Nicholas, and Emily, with whom he enjoys quality time golfing, camping, and playing bass guitar. He also avidly supports Purdue University athletics, cheering on the Boilermakers in football and basketball.
Andy Dalkin is not just a candidate; he's a passionate listener and advocate. He's committed to ensuring your voice is heard, your concerns addressed, and your perspective valued on the Lake County Board. Join him in building a stronger future for our community, where your stories, aspirations, and unique perspectives are at the heart of every decision.
